AstraZeneca, which manufactures Nexium, a brand-name prescription drug, had a hard time disclosing its full $4.2 billion price increase for the year to March 30.
The price increase for the generic version of AstraZeneca's drug was a little steep.

As for AstraZeneca, the price of the brand-name drug is $9.50 per 10-milligram dose.

AstraZeneca's price increases for Nexium, a prescription drug that has been on the market since its introduction in 2001, have ranged from $9.12 to $9.52.
The average price for a 12-tablet bottle of Nexium was $16.59 in the United States last year.
It's not hard to see why the price for AstraZeneca's brand-name drug might be higher.
"We do not have the opportunity to make a price increase for a generic drug, but we do have the opportunity to talk about what's happening with the brand-name drug," said Daniel Bremner, chairman and chief executive of AstraZeneca's research and development division.
Bremner said that at the current price of $9.50 per 10-milligram dose, it is unlikely to be covered by all plans.
"The overall benefit is not that high, but it is going to be higher for the brand-name drug," he said. "We think we can help make the drug more affordable."
In addition, Bremner noted that the AstraZeneca brand-name drug is not the only pharmaceutical company to have been affected by a price increase.
On Wednesday, the company said that it had "reported a price increase of approximately 15 percent for the year to March 30 from the previous price."
Bremner said that he was not aware of any specific changes in the brand-name drug's cost, but said that it was a good idea to talk to your insurance provider.
Bremner also said that he believes the price increase for AstraZeneca will help ensure that Nexium continues to be covered by Medicare and Medicaid.
"We are having to address the issue of drug pricing for patients who don't need the medication or don't have insurance coverage," Bremner said.
"The current price of $9.50 is going to help us in the long run."
